Thoughts on Women's education

Education is a fundamental human right. Indian government initiates a major task of “education for all” across the nation, but still we have a lower female literacy rate in India. According to the report published by the National Survey of India, the literacy rate of the country in 2022 is 77.7percent, 84.7% for males and 70.3% for females. While Kerala has the highest literacy rate in India at 96.2% (Males – 96.11% Females – 92.07% ), Andhra Pradesh has the least literacy rate in India of 66.4% (Males – 73.4% Females – 59.5). This shows that female literacy rate varies among different states within the country. Millions of women remain illiterate because of poverty, social stigma, discrimination, lack of resources and much more to say.
In the lower strata of society, we see parents sending their male child to school but not the girl child. Even if girl children are sent, they are taken admission in some not so better schools just for a name’s sake. Some may complete their primary education and may not proceed for higher studies. Just imagine the discrimination and inequality they are going to create in the minds of these children at such a small age. This will continue till their life ends making women much inferior to men.
Consequences of not educating our girl children can be seen in the entire spectrum of her life, her family and the entire nation.
An educated women is just like a compass guiding a sailor. She will be well capable of handling her personal and professional life. She will make her family financially stable. Two incomes under the same roof will improve the quality of living and also ensure better education and facilities to the children, not to mention that a happy family will ultimately lead to a happy society. It will make her capable of acquiring new skills and being able to communicate with others in a civilized manner.
Educating a women help a country to develop fully. She can be expected to participate in political meetings, discussion, decision making, which inn turn promote a more representative and effective government.
Women must be educated for a healthy and happy life. An educated women has the skills, information and self-confidence to be a better human being, successful mother and a responsible citizen. They can encourage their family to be a healthy one and make her children learn in a better way than others do. She will know how to handle situations in wise and educated manner. They will make their next generation an educated generation.
Only with the help of education women can know her rights. Women belong to a weaker section of society because she suffers due to rigid, outdated social customs and religious practices. But an educated women cannot be exploited easily. She is aware of her rights and will go any length to defend them.
From a girl to a woman, she needs a support from the people around her to attain her goals. They may have the desire to, but what if she is unsupported from her family itself? They require a family that understands her and helps her grow. The society and people around her should make her grow to reach her full potential.
Give wings to a girl, let her spread it and fly, to be the beautiful butterflies...
